ICAR -Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes has trumpeted its credentials as India’s second center to produce cloned buffalo calf, Hisar Gaurav on 11 December 2015. Institute celebrates the first birth anniversary of a calf on 11.12.2016.
Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Director, said that this success not only brings Institute in limelight but also strengthens our future research direction in the field of animal cloning and we are heading towards the production of more clones from superior animals in coming days.
Team leader, Dr. Yadav informed that at the age one year it has a body weight of 270 kg. We have regularly recorded its growth rate, respiration and pulse rate, studied blood hematology and biochemistry profile and chromosomal karyotype. We also conducted various contagious disease and parasitic infestation tests at fixed intervals. Its physiological indices, blood hematology and biochemistry profile are within normal range. It has also been tested for mandatory contagious disease for breeding bulls and found without any such diseases. It has started to show mounting behavior and expected to start donating semen at 18 months of age. Semen of cloned bull will be thoroughly evaluated for various parameters and compared with its somatic cell donor bull.
