North Zone sports Tournament – 2018

Indian Council of Agricultural Research holds sports tournament annually for keeping fit the physical and mental health of its employees. This year council given this responsibility to this institute. ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes, Hisar organized the North Zone Inter-institutional Staff Sports Tournament during 14-16 November 2018. In this mega event more than 850 participants from 24 ICAR institutes located in north including 50 women took part. There were 34 different events which include Kabaddi, Football, Volley ball (Smashing & Shooting), Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess, Carrom and Track & Field events.

The event was organized at world class facilities available at Giri Centre, CCS HAU, Hisar with the kind permission of their worthy Vice-chancellor.  The tournament was inaugurated by Dr. KP Singh, Vice-Chancellor, CCSHAU) at 9:30 AM on Novembr 14, 2018. The opening ceremony was graced by guests of honour Brig. Devender Kumar (Commandant, EBS Hisar) and Dr. DS Dahiya (Director, Students’ Welfare CCSHAU). The occasion was also witnessed by the worthy Registrar, Deans and Directors of CCS HAU, Hisar & LUVAS, Hisar and Dr. BS Punia, Ex-Director, ICAR-CIRB. The matches were played for three days viz. November 14 -16, 2018. The closing ceremony and prize distribution was held on November 16, 2018 at Giri Centre by the chief guest Ms. Geetika Jakhar (Renowned Wrestler & Arujna Awardee). Dr. BN Tripathi (Director, ICAR-NRCE) and Dr. Rajbir Singh (Director, ATARI Ludhiana) were the Guest of Honours of the evening. In this tournament, ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute, Shimla bagged the overall championship. The tournament was successfully conducted under the leadership of Dr. SS Dahiya (Director, ICAR-CIRB) and Dr. N Saxena (Organizing Secretary) and Dr.  Sajjan Singh (Co-organizing Secretary) along with the staff of ICAR-CIRB.
